Colon cancer screenings
Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in the United States, and the second-leading cause of cancer-related deaths. That’s why preventive colon cancer screenings are a vital part of your health. Recently, the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) has recommended reducing the age for an initial colon cancer screening from age 45 to 50. This recommendation includes two types of tests: colonoscopies, and stool-based tests.
Starting routine screenings five years earlier could help prevent deaths from colorectal cancer. Often, colorectal cancer does not cause symptoms until it has grown or spread. That’s why it is best to be screened early. Screenings can even prevent some colorectal cancers by finding and removing pre-cancerous growths called polyps. If you are aged 45 or above, we recommend scheduling an appointment today for an initial colon cancer screening.
