Awaken your inner Superhero! Come run The Crazy Pancreas 5k outfitted in your favorite Hero attire and become a hero yourself as you run to help us find a Cure for Type I Diabetes. The Crazy Pancreas 5k, 10k, 1 mile walk and 1/2 mile kids race is a volunteer run charity event inspired by a brave 7 year old named Chris Thurman. At two years old Chris was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes (T1D). He will be insulin-dependent for the rest of his life, and just in the last year alone he has endured over 3,000 finger-pricks and 1,500 insulin injections. Along with the rigorous blood testing and insulin shots, everything he consumes must be weighed and measured, and his blood sugar levels need to be checked when he plays and even when he sleeps. https://www.youtube.com/embed/-dsxOpR8ps0?enablejsapi=1&origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.portneuf.org
Chris’ parents, Travis & Jenny Thurston organized the first Crazy Pancreas 5k in 2011 to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) the #1 non-profit funder of diabetes research in the world. Chris and his family also help spread awareness about T1D at their event, and on YouTube through Chris’ Quick Tips. All proceeds from the Crazy Pancreas 5k are donated to JDRF to help fund research to improve quality of life for those living with T1D everyday, and to help find a cure. The hope is that one day Chris will be able to say, “I used to have Type I Diabetes.”
This year’s race will take place Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Stuart Park in Inkom, Idaho.
Medals will be given to the top 3 overall male & female finishers of the 5k, 10k and kids race. Ribbons will be awarded 3 deep in each age division. The first overall male & female winners of the 10k will also receive a $50 cash prize. This is a family friendly event and running strollers are allowed. However, please be courteous to other runners at the start line by moving to the back of the pack.
